THE REAL STORY BEHIND THE SANDY BODECKER DUNKS

SANDY BODECKER 1OF1 EBAY DUNKS

The Sandy Bodecker Dunks have a unique place in Nike SB history, a story that arguably has extended for nearly twenty years. In August of 2003, a pair was auctioned off with the winner of the auction being offered a pair in their desired size.

Proceeds of the sale were to benefit the Tim Brauch Foundation as well as skate parks in Portland, Oregon. The auction ended with a final bid price of $30,000 USD (~$48.5k USD adjusted for inflation). A unique stipulation to the sale was that the sample version of the sneaker was to be "destroyed" to make the pair won at auction a true
1-of-1 sneaker. A decade later, in 2013, it was revealed that Nike SB founder, the person whose initials are what the SB stands for, Sandy Bodecker, won the auction, when he was spotted wearing the sneakers to his send-off celebration after being promoted to Nike's VP of Special Projects. In 2018, Bodecker died of throat cancer, but his legacy and influence at Nike lives on.

The 2022 eBay x Nike SB Dunk Low release took place through three different releases. The first being 10 separate eBay auctions of care packages that were an homage to Nike SB's skateboarding roots, as well as the original eBay Dunks from '03. The care package auctions ended with closing bids ranging between $29.1-$41.8k. On a wider scale, independent skate shops as well as an online release via Nike SNKRS took place as well.
